Simple Yet Amazing French Toast

In high school I worked in a small family owned diner that made the best French toast I've ever had. When I learned how to make it during one of my breakfast shifts, I couldn't get over how easy it was to make. Simply make a scrambled egg mixture of milk and eggs. Sometimes if I want to get fancy, I'll add a splash of pure vanilla extract but it's not necessary. I then fully dip one piece at a time of Texas toast and place on the griddle which has been preheated to a temperature of 250 degrees. After a few minutes, I check the toast. If it has started to brown, it's ready to flip. Cook both sides until browned and the crust is no longer wet. Immediately upon taking it off the griddle, I cover one side in butter and generously sprinkle a 50/50 cinnamon and sugar mixture before pouring the syrup. I usually keep a small Tupperware container of the cinnamon and sugar mixed together in my spice cabinet that way I don't have to mix the two ingredients whenever I make French toast- which is a lot!

Bedroom Blues

Lately I have been obsessed with the color blue! That's right, I've been singing along to this gem...

Combining the desire within me to make our house more of our style and my recent fascination with blue, I took my interest to Pinterest. That's right my friends, I'm a poet and didn't know it! In case you're finding my dry humor corny (it's okay), I'll skip right to the chase and show you one of my favorite inspiration pieces I found and of course "pinned".
I should mention that the majority of my "pinning" is done on the Pinterest mobile app as you can tell by the picture above.

Anyways, do you ever wake up with the feeling that today would be your lucky day at the thrift store? All joking aside, I do. About a month ago, I had the feeling and decided to steal the fiancé's SUV because that's just how confident I felt. Lo and behold, I found a pair of bedside tables and quickly scooped them up for a mere $26! Not only are a woman's hips made for carrying children but apparently tables through a thrift store as well.

There she is! Her sister is right behind her (she is missing a knob that I have not yet replaced).

As you may have guessed, my next step was to run to our local Home Depot. I purchased some medium grit sandpaper and a can of turquoise spray paint. The semi-finished product looks something like this-

Three reasons why I said semi-finished:
  1. The sister table is missing a knob and I haven't found any that I love yet to replace it.
  2. I ran out of spray paint so not only is the sister missing a knob but she's multi-toned.
  3. It started raining while I was spray painting. Yes, raining. The drops left little dimples on the top. I'm debating whether or not to sand and paint again. I kind of like the dimples. They give the tables character and provide me with a story to tell. Who doesn't love furniture with a story?
As you can see, my bedroom is also navy blue as in my inspiration picture. I want to show you before and after pictures of the bedroom wall color but need to play around with settings on the camera first. I've learned that dark wall colors are hard to photograph well!

Have a blessed New Year!

Staying True to My Word

The other evening we had an event to attend. I wore a beautiful burnt orange dress paired with sophisticated yet bold leopard print pumps. It was pouring all night so I had to slick my hair back into a bun. This navy H&M coat was perfect for the weather!

Staying True to My Word (Day 8)

One Dress, Two Ways
This is the same dress I wore to my sisters engagement party. I wanted a more basic but yet put together look. I paired the dress with matching wedges, my hair in a sleek bun, and oversized gold hoops.

Dress: Target (July '12)
Shoes: Marshall's (years ago)

Beach Bag Essentials

You may or may not have noticed the lack in "Staying True to My Word" posts and it's not due to me not getting dressed but rather where I have been. I spent the past week or so on a beach vacation with my family which simply means I spent the past seven days in a bathing suit rather than an outfit from H&M. Since I would not have much to post regarding what I have been wearing, I have decided to do a post on my beach bag essentials.

In looking at this picture, seasoned moms may be wondering why my son is walking around the beach in a regular diaper rather than a swimming diaper? The answer is simply that the swimming diapers can not "hold" as much as regular pampers. Therefore, I will keep him in a regular diaper (usually with his bathing suit over it..this was an impromptu evening visit to the beach) until we go in the water. Below is a list of my essentials.

Beach Bag Essentials
  1. Baby sunblock
  2. Adult sunblock
  3. Water
  4. Sunglasses
  5. Baby hat
  6. Towel
  7. Shovel and pail
  8. A few wipes put in a zip lock bag
  9. 1 regular diaper
  10. 2 swimming diapers
  11. Plastic bag for dirty diapers
  12. Snacks
  13. Pacifier
  14. Sippy cup

Staying True to My Word (Day 7)

This past weekend was my sister's engagement party! I found this beautiful lace dress that I really bought to pair with some amazing boots for the fall (will do a post when the time comes) but could not wait any longer to wear it. My original plan was to wear these fierce brown sandal pumps that I have with it but it rained the entire morning. Since the ground was going to be soft and the party was being held in the backyard, I opted for flats.

Dress: Target (summer '12)
Belt: H&M (summer '12)

Staying True to My Word (Day 6)

We recently had a wedding to attend to which allowed me to wear this beautiful high-low dress from H&M. The color is a beautiful blue while the fabric is light and comfortable. The entire outfit is actually from H&M minus the shoes I wore (not pictured but were nude pumps from ALDO). All pieces were bought between spring and summer '12.

Enjoy!

This is a picture I found on Google Images that shows the full length of the dress.
